Homeless and Heartless

Why is it that in times of plenty

so many live in dire need

sleep on the ground, and cry in hunger

while others are consumed by greed?

Why can’t our eyes weep with sorrow?

Where is the mercy our hearts do keep?

While others starve, we fill our bellies

While others freeze, in beds we sleep.

Do not their hearts deserve to dream?

Should not their stomachs have their fill?

Remember – all we take for granted

we could share – and have plenty still.
