This poem was written for A Prompt Each Day, a daily dose of inspiration. For today’s prompt – we were given the above quote to inspire our writing.
Here is my attempt:
How do you choose to see the world
With one eye shut –
Two steps behind the pack?
Or do you choose to see and breathe
And jump right in –
No looking back?
One’s eyes twisted – quick to glance
Shall grasp no meaning
they look not deep.
Yet eyes that search and linger still
Are filled with promise
And treasures deep.
Eyes closed tight cannot perceive
While squinting-
They let in no light.
And rose that blossoms – is blooming still
with sheltered eyes-
Its beauty ceases to ignite.
Yet for the eye that passions raised
Is convinced-
There’s more to see.
A blossom helps pursue the dream
A garden some day-
That rose shall be.
So look not quickly – stay a while
At beauty’s feet
The lessons lie.
If we refuse to truly see
Real meaning-
Is what our hearts deny.

I’m so glad you liked it. I’m starting to really like being forced to write. It takes me places I wouldn’t ordinarily go on my own.

Beautiful!!
Beyond words!
This is my favorite part:
If we refuse to truly see
Real meaning-
Is what our hearts deny.
Since I myself am not good with poems, I am always wonder struck by those who skillfully use the words to describe the essence of something. You have just done that!
P.S Nice blog 🙂

Thanks so much. Still a poet-in-training (so to speak) although I’ve been writing most of my life. I fell in love with the written word – and still continue to find it enchanting. Thanks so much for your kind words – and your willingness to share. It means so much.

So well said. And I have one question, re your blog–the title, does it come from a poem or song? It’s so unique and tender without being “cutesy”–I like it a lot.

Thank you. I sat down before starting the blog and tried to come up with names. At the time I was really focusing on writing a lot of poems for my kids. I probably came up with thirty names or more but this was the first one and for some reason it struck a chord. To me . . . It sounded a bit poetic.

I love when that happens–a first brilliant spark that you know is “the one”!
