APED – Prompt 15: Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!

Fire

This poem was written for A Prompt Each Day, a daily dose of inspiration.  For today’s prompt – we were given the word “Fire” to inspire our writing.  I am not going to try to explain how my brain works – but truthfully – this poem came straight to my head the minute I read the word “fire.”  I guess on serious days – I write serious poems – and other days I just feel more playful (all to the benefit of my kids).

Cake

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!

My day has been so stressful

My heart’s filled with dismay

While all the kids are running ‘round

I don’t have the heart to play.

This morning something happened

And I’ve not been the same

I ate my mommy’s chocolate cake

But sister got the blame.

See, I’m not such a dummy

I didn’t eat it all

I gave some to my sister

When mom came down the hall.

My mom shrieked when she came in

My sister just sat and ate

I wiped my face before mom saw

But sister was too late.

Mom asked, “Who ate my cake?”

And I said, “Can’t you see?”

Sister’s mouth was full of cake

So she got blamed – not me.

Mom said, “Girl, you’re grounded!”

And sent her to her bed

Now my sister’s mad at me

And my heart’s filled with dread.

See, I don’t care that sister’s mad

It’s happened lots before

She scared me with the things she said

As she walked out the door.

“Liar, liar, pants on fire.”

She said so angrily

And that is why I am so scared

I know that liar’s me.

All day I’ve stood here waiting

For any type of flame

But so far nothing’s happened

Everything’s the same.

So maybe I’m a liar

But she’s a liar too

“Liar, liar, pants on fire”

I think she has no clue.
