APED – Prompt 22: Travel Light

This poem was written for A Prompt Each Day, a daily dose of inspiration.  For today’s prompt – we were given one word (Light) to inspire our writing.  This is what I came up with.  This poem is related to my last post, “You’ll Not Have Power Over Me.”   I hope you enjoy it!

With suitcase packed

and held in hand

a one way ticket

stand near the track.

While others whisper

sweet farewells

I stand alone

no looking back.

As passengers

all board the train

a shrill noise

warns we soon depart

And gentle movement

along the tracks

push us forward

from where we start.

Of future destination

no one’s sure

yet tracks we lay

toward future bright.

And past harms done

don’t travel well

leave them behind

and travel light.
