APED – Prompt 30: How the Heart Interprets

quoted4

This poem was written for A Prompt Each Day, a daily dose of inspiration.  For today’s prompt – we were given a quote – one of my absolute favorites by Helen Keller – to inspire our writing.  Sometimes things are written so perfectly – and captured in the most beautiful of words – that it would be a disservice to try to write the same.  Instead – I decided to let my thoughts wander – and use them to show what her quote means to me (at least in one aspect).  I hope you enjoy the result.

Your soft touch

Sends ripples of

m m m m m m m

Impassioned in my mind

Had it been someone else

That touch –

Would not have felt a warm embrace

A slap – perhaps a pinch

Tapping at the edges of my mind

For what did it mean?

Yet yours pulled at the edges of my heart

Begged to be noticed and goosebumps call to attention

A touch – is just a touch – and nothing more

What matters most – is how the heart interprets.

  1. […] I guess sometimes things stick with me – as did this quote and its meaning.  I was just sitting around and all of a sudden this poem came to me.  I hope you don’t mind that I wrote twice for this prompt.  It is definitely a different take on the matter!  If you want to read my previous attempt at this prompt, please meander on over to How the Heart Interprets.
