APED – Prompt 36: Innocent Stares

This poem was written for A Prompt Each Day, a daily dose of inspiration.  For today’s prompt – we were given one word (innocent) to inspire our writing.  The first two lines just came out of my mouth and the others quickly followed.  I hope you enjoy it.

Innocent stares and

Innocent glance

Thrown back over shoulder

As you look askance.

Do you hope I notice

Do you hope I see

As your eyes are glaring

Still looking at me?

Why is it so difficult

Why is it so strange

Why hurt other people

For things they can’t change.

For all that I am and

For all that you are

Despite all our differences

We’re quite similar by far.
