APED – Prompt 41: Born One Foot in the Grave

This poem was written for A Prompt Each Day, a daily dose of inspiration.  For today’s prompt – we were given ten words to inspire our writing (see below).  I was able to use nine of them in this poem.  I hope you enjoy what I was able to see in these words.  Feel free to let me know your thoughts 🙂

List of words:
Sweet, Hours, Slip, Thoughts, Quiet, Eager, Leisure, Born, Grave and Stars.

Sweet thoughts ne’r kissed his lips

In quiet he feared leisure stance

The hours slip and he’s still racing

Lives in this world like in a trance.

No moments spared for love’s review

No chance to laugh, to sing, to play

Eager – he rushes toward the grave

His outlook always dim and gray.

And from the moment he was born

Imminent death he seemed to grieve

He sat in fear of love and longing

He never ached to live and breathe.

    • Thank you so much – your words mean a lot. It’s okay – I forgive you for dragging me out of early retirement vacation. Still gone – but it has been a little busier lately. Promise to share pics and poems if I come up with any 🙂
